Fortress Peak is a dramatic mountain, and the neighbor of Utah’s highpoint—King’s Peak. The terrain surrounding Fortress Peak is as beautifully stunning as it is incredibly remote. In my opinion, of all Utah's 13ers, Fortress Peak is by far the most beautiful, intresting, and the most fun to climb. The approach is roughly 14 miles long, with a steady uphill pitch. Fortunately, Fortress Peak is not nearly as popular as King’s Peak. Therefore you can find the complete solitude that you look for in the wilderness. Both the west and east ridges are exceptionally fun scrambles with good exposure.
