Pfeifferhorn is officially recorded as Little Matterhorn, and it appears under that name on most maps. Locally the mountain is known as Pfeifferhorn, in honor of Chuck Pfeiffer, a local climber who led the Wasatch Club. Pfeifferhorn is used as one of the training grounds for Mountain Link Guiding Company and Exum Mountain Guides. Every so often, you'll see small groups honing their mountaineering skills for climbs in Alaska, the Andes and the Himalayas. Alex Lowe was also known to frequent the North Ridge route of Pfeifferhorn, during his time avalanche forecasting and guiding in Utah. Pfeifferhorn lies on the Alpine Ridge, which separates Salt Lake Valley from Utah Valley. Because of its location, the views from this mountain encompass large peaks on all sides. The summit view is rugged and beautiful. Pfeifferhorn has two main routes to the summit: the East Ridge route and the North Ridge route. The East Ridge route is the Standard route from Red Pine Canyon. The North Ridge route is far more technical, rated at 5.5, and is climbed as an alpine route in the winter and spring.
