Chipman Peak is a remote mountain in the Central Wasatch. Chipman is not a rugged mountain, but its distance and elevation gain from the nearest trailheads, in Little Cottonwood Canyon and Alpine, make the summit a long haul. There are no maintained trails to its summit, which keep it a lonely, seldom-visited peak, yet there is a trail from Alpine to Lake Hardy, which is a high alpine lake on the west aspect of Chipman Peak. The true splendor of Chipman Peak arrives in winter. The majority of the mountain lies above the treeline, so the backcountry ski potential is nearly unlimited.
